I find my friends at G (all at L4)working 60 hrs a week at least and they think claims of good WLB at google in general are exaggerated and think most folks at the L4 level have to work harder than what is expected for a good “WLB” company. Having Microsoft and Google both on resume will help in long run. I think for a lot of people, the marginal difference between Amazon and Google (or Microsoft or whatever company with better WLB) probably isn't worth dealing with another job search. I see a lot of hate towards google recently because they laid off in a messy way, lacked innovation and lost the war for AI and cloud. I make significantly more than UK average for a senior engineer, but not as much (and without many of the extras) as I would at stripe, google, or facebook. That's reflected in my salary.
